When we start our way of design, first of all, we should practise the basic skills such as painting, sensitivity to beauty and composition. The most important capacity we should learn is to express our imaginations and great ideas. If we have the best idea without good skills in computer drawing, the only thing we can do is to imagine, not create and make it come true.
When asked the question "how to improve my painting skills quickly?", my answer will be "drawing realistic images as much as possible". In this way you will find that your painting skill and sensitivity to beauty raise no less than one level. In this tutorial, we will make a transparent glass coffee table with photoshop. Let’s begin!
The final image
1. The first step we create a new document. If you want your image more clear, set its size bigger. Add some guides at the bottom of the image.
Use Pen Tool to shape outline of the coffee table in the west, and set its layer style as shown in the image below.
When this step is done, it will be like this:
2. Copy the layer and set the copy’s layer style. Switch to the layer panel, move this copy layer to the bottom as the background layer. Then set fill color and layer style in the specific area as shown in the image below.
When this step is done, the effect image will be like this:
3. As shown in the image below, draw the shape of one table leg, reorder layers and set layer style in order to reach the effect. Rename the layer side.
4. The most important and difficult part is drawing those table legs. We will do it carefully and patiently with more details.
Before making the table legs, we should think about what effects we want it to have. Firstly we want those legs have 3D effect. Secondly, we should add some shades and anchor points to them. Thirdly, we should set the level of brightness.
5. This step we will make another table leg with patience and details.
6. Add a shade to the table, reorder all layers properly and this coffee table is done. You can see the final image is shown below. Enjoy!
