You know, building a whole website is a huge but trivial task. As you have learned, we need handle a lot of tables, text, images and so on. So we have to look for a convenient way to make the task easy. Templates are what we need. In the dreamweaver8.0 there are some templates, by which you can build website efficiently and expediently. In fact, in a whole website, you can use templates to create the different pages. Besides, the template can harmony the whole website and make the different pages into the same style conveniently. Of course, before using a template, you need create a new template to apply. Now we learn how to create the template.

Step1
Select the FILE-NEW command, and open the new document dialog box. Then, selecting template page—HTML template. Just like the following picture showing.

Step2: click the create button. Now a new template is created. Set focus on the webpage, insert a table of two columns and two rows, and set align as center in the properties inspector.
Step3: select the first row and merge cells. Put an image in the merged cell. Then, select the second-row and the second-column, inserting a picture.
Now split the second –row and first-column into three columns, inserting different images. You need to pay attention that in different columns you can put in different contents, but the content must look like have some internal connections. The picture shows this rule.

Step4: the top content is ready. Now we need set the back color of the pages. It had better be same with the top picture.
Setp5: create the editable region. After edit the top content, you need to keep a region to be editable. Below the top content, we can insert a table that has one row and one column. Set focus in it, and select the INSERT—TEMPLATE OBJECTS—EDITABLE REGION command.

Step6: select the FILE—SAVE command, open the save as template dialog box. In the box, put the name in to the “save as” textbox.

At last, a new template is created. Next we will learn how to build a web page by using this template.
