There are a lot of Photoshop techniques that may be helpful to achieve a “sketch” look – they include extensive use of layers, channels, curves, many filters and other Photoshop features. 1. Open an image.

First of all, just open an image which you want to make it into a sketch. To get the best sketch image, high contrast images are preferable. If it’s needed, you can adjust the image’s contrast (Image>Adjust>Brightness/Contrast).

2. Image > Adjustments > Desaturate

Then adjust the image, follow the picture below. Desaturate this new layer.

Then after “Desaturate” process, you can get a black-and-white effect photo.

3. Make a duplicate of the desaturated layer. Then keep the duplicate layer selected. (Notice that there should now be at least two layers: two desaturated layers, if you like, you can also have a blank background layer.)

(you can also duplicate the layer by right clicking on the previous layer and selecting the option of duplicating that layer.)

4. Invert this new layer.Image > Adjustments > Invert

To make it look more naturally, that is to say, like a real sketch, we can use the “Invert” item to get the effect.

5. Notice that now, with the inverted layer selected, change the blending mode to "color dodge." The image will turn all white with few black spots on it.

6. Follow this: Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur , then you can set the radius in between 4.0-9.0. Choose the one that creates a nice sketch effect.
