Oil painting effect seems to be very eye catching in the usage of photoshop, however, to draw an oil painting takes a lot of time, therefore today we will teach another method to convert a black-and-white portrait to an oil painting without taking too much effort. In this tutorial, we will focus on the usage of water drawing brush to complete this master piece. Now let’s see what the secret is in the process. Here is the impression drawing and the original one.
1. Create a canvas with a 600*375 size, and copy the portrait material into the canvas and we will get the following effect with the help of free transform.
2. Enlarge the body material and modify the figure, and then execute the following step: figure → adjust → brightness/contrast. Copy the layer and execute the water color effect on the original layer. Remember the brush detail is 12 pixels and the intensity of the shadow is 1 pixel, and the grain is 2 pixels.
3. Then choose the copied layer to adjust the threshold color gradation. Change the mixed mode to multiply mode and merge the two layers.
4. Create a new layer and use water color brush to portrait the canvas. You can use the following material
5. Hide the brush layer and choose the portrait layer and check all with the keys Ctrl + A and copy it after that.
6. Make the brush layer visible and add the layer mask. Edit the layer with pressing Alt key and go into the layer mask edition panel and use opposition effect with the keys Ctrl +L.
7. Leave the panel and hide the portrait layer. Then drag the background material to the top of the canvas and change the mixed mode to linear burn
8. Then adjust the size of the figure and add the words and some other brush patterns that you prefer, thus getting the final effect.
